A frequent topic of conversation between N & I is the hypocrisy and impatience prevalent in society today.
People want world peace but can’t tolerate a Candy Crush invitation. The world should be tolerant but we’ll pass snide remarks on people’s social media activities. People want others to be patient but get hyper if their own electricity/ water/ etc goes for even five minutes.
The world should become more tolerant but we’ll shoot someone who dares to honk behind us. People preach becoming better humans but employ child workers to ‘just mind’ their own children.

The world wants things to improve dramatically and urgently. Yet, no one wants to step up and take charge to do it. People put up preachy statuses but stay petty & shallow themselves.
The world claims to be holy & spiritual but goes on to harm those vulnerable. People claim to have a strong moral compass but support those who have questionable morals.
We want our soldiers to protect our country but we can’t even follow basic rules ourselves. People advocate diversity but want others to agree with them on everything.
Oh, the irony! There are many, many examples of such hypocrisy. We are living in an age where our sense of entitlement is through the roof. We expect the world to be laid at our feet, but we don’t want to inconvenience ourselves.

Maybe, at one time or another, N or I have been guilty of one or the other ourselves too. But usually, we take a step back. We ask ourselves if our complaint is genuine. Or is it just emerging from a place of intolerance?
When COVID was raging, the world had suddenly turned all feel-good & roses. Everyone, suddenly conscious of her/ his mortality, had become a kind soul. Now that that scare is gone, we’re back to our impatient, intolerant ways.
Can we please pause & take a deep breath? Can we please not erupt at the flimsiest of things? Can we please inject humour to diffuse? Can we look at the bright side in situations, no matter how dark?
Can we please, please live & let live?
