I’ve broken the law once & gotten caught. Won’t say anything further…
These days, I’ve been watching a lot of Miss Marple on SonyLiv. I read the books long ago. It’s a wonderful feeling to return to those stories albeit in a TV adaptation. Now, what these stories reinforce is that there is never a perfect crime.
There is no perfect murder. There is no perfect robbery. There is no perfect forgery. A criminal always leaves behind a clue, a telltale sign. It just takes a keen eye and ear to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But, of course, the books are set in post-war Britain. The culture of those times, as well as that of England, were quite different from today. A person’s word held meaning. And I admit some of it is fictional simplification.
Contrast this to today’s crimes in India. We have hit rock bottom when it comes to culture or morals. (Kalyug anyone?) (p. s. This is not to say that moral degeneration has not happened in Britain. I believe, the world over, we have descended into a moral abyss.)
There are no murders these days; there is hacking and storing in the fridge. There are no robberies nowadays; there is corruption and reservations, i.e., mass-scale stealing. There is no forgery today; there is sophisticated fraud.
Today, most Indians work on the premise that the person in front is lying or is a thief. “Wo to chor hai!” Technology has make crime extremely nuanced. However, even then, criminals get caught. That same technology helps in catching them.

And out of 100, at least 20 people turn out to be truthful and conscientious. It may take more effort, money and time but criminals are unable to get away even today. And, for me, that is the beauty of karma!
Have you ever broken the law and didn’t get caught, if so how?
