I like to 🤔 I’ve had a fatalistic relationship with death. It’s something that’s bound to happen; so why be 😨 of it? But COVID made me digest another aspect about life (& hence about death)… that life isn’t just ephemeral but also unpredictable! Yes, everyone knows we’ll die One Day. Some Day…

But COVID showed that that some day can come anytime, even today! Young people who, till before COVID, were making plans of working, marrying, buying a 🏠, beginning a family, investing in shares, holidaying abroad, they were suddenly on ventilator support. & before anybody could realize, they were gone!

Older people but still having good health were one day making plans for their children & grandchildren & the next day were being carried to crematoria & cemeteries by the same children & grandchildren! Adding to that have been cases of untimely death due to other ailments. E.g. losing a classmate to cancer.

Quite a few such incidents in the last few years. Young people. In their prime. Leaving behind devastated parents, spouses & children… Leaving behind unfulfilled dreams & aspirations… All these COVID & other untimely deaths have made me realize that all I’ve is the moment right now.

All the grand plans I’d kept for a hypothetical ‘some day’, I’ve begun to put them into action already… Have started to live life absolutely to the fullest. I say ‘yes’ to everything now. Many folks have noticed this change in me. “You seem to have become young again!” or “You’ve become a going out/ partying freak!”

Yes, I have changed & am quite proud about it. Death will happen. Certainly! But I don’t want to approach that moment with regret; only with contentment! Other posts I wrote on death – The Stillness of Death & on the pandemic – Thoughts in The Times of a Pandemic – Be Grateful .
