It’s tough to answer this because I’m not a sports person at all. In my childhood, I’ve played quite a few games – 🏸, cricket, table tennis, throwball, kabbadi, kho kho etc but I was never ‘invested’ in any of them…
I’ve been more of a 📚 girl than a sports girl though I partially regret it now! No, not the books part but the part about staying active. If I’d remained active since childhood, I would have had much better health today…
Anyhow, what’s life if not for a few regrets?
My family too belonged to the ‘but first studies’ brigade. Almost everyone around me was either highly qualified or academically brilliant. There was no avenue for me to slack in my studies.

My school had expansive grounds and fields. Even a racetrack. We had Physical Training teachers. But Physical Training was always regarded as a ‘nice to do’ thing, not a ‘must do’.
My school introduced me, like all other students, to almost every sport but there was never any push toward it. Neither an encouragement to pursue it wholeheartedly nor punishment if you disregarded it completely.
Do I sound like I am complaining? Well, not really. At least not about my family or school. Because they shaped me into who I am today. And because I take pride in my academic brilliance.
But I do wish the circumstances of the time included picking up a sport. Now, well past my youth, when I make an effort to be active, trust me, it is doubly or triply hard.

I used to watch 🏏 a lot in the 1990s. That was the time when there were just a handful of ‘Cups’ & cricketers weren’t ‘in your face’… Ever since cricket has become as commonplace as the 🌄 , I’ve lost interest!
When the ⚽️ World Cup is in progress, I end up watching a couple of games with my father.
I’ve been keenly interested in the Olympics for the last few years, but I don’t watch as I feel I jinx India’s performance… So, I prefer to keep abreast with the games on social media! Superstitious much.
All in all, if one of the future daily Prompts will be – what is something you wish you could go back in ⏲️ & change? – then, taking up at least one sports in childhood would be high on my list…
