I often get complimented on being able to overcome my inertia & moving away to a different plane from the corporate one. And, each time, my response to this has been twofold –

  1. I’d the capability to overcome my inertia. It was because I didn’t have the constraints that usually bind people to jobs. Most people are, unfortunately, not free of financial constraints which prohibits them from moving to a different plane.

And so, I really appreciate that I got lucky regarding this. I’m aware of my privilege and grateful for it.

  • I’d the willingness to leave the corporate plane. Not all of us are meant or need to do this. For many, the corporate world may not be slavery at all.

I’ve seen at close quarters, folks who are wholly committed to their work. For them, the corporate job isn’t just a 9 to 9 grind that pays off the bills. For them, it’s a chance to learn & to make a difference.

For such people, it’s not slavery at all; I would rather say that they’re the masters of the corporate world!

Thus, if you contemplate if you need a shift in your path, I urge you to evaluate yourself on the Capability vs. Willingness Graph. Wherever you fall on the axes, I’ll request you to either be happy about it or work towards changing your life. Just don’t stagnate please!

It’s completely OK to be happy with your status quo. I advise you to not get swept by the social media trends of ‘pursue your passion’, ‘quit your full-time job now’ etc. Please don’t ever feel that you’re inferior to such people in any way. Those people don’t have to live your life; you’ve to. You ascertain what you desire!

To conclude, like I said in ‘The Story of My Sabbatical’, there is a lot of noise around us. In that chaos, we are unable to hear the voice of our own heart. I am glad I did.

The sabbatical has made me grateful for being able to exercise my choice & to live life on my own terms.
