A thought that churned in my head yesterday, while reflecting over the occasion of World Health Day, has been gratitude!

First & foremost, I’m grateful for the health of my parents & my loved ones. My parents got the damn COVID in the second & third waves. In fact, almost everyone we knew was either down with COVID or was affected by it in some way.

I’m thankful that almost every one of these folks recovered. For my parents, I was thankful for the vaccinations that had already been done for healthcare professionals & people above 60 years of age.

I’m grateful for my own health.

In 2021, I took a total of 27,44,268 steps, averaging 7,519 steps per day. Boat shoe!
I climbed 761 floors. That’s like visiting four castles.
I walked 2,042 kilometers. The equivalent of covering New Zealand (& more) on foot!
I burnt 11,27,475 calories.

One of the things I’m more thankful for is taking up jogging. It was, of course, a physical barrier but more than that, it was a mental block. I currently jog up to seven minutes but hope to amp this in 2022.

The thing I’m most grateful for is minimising my sugar intake. Since 2021 September, I’ve pledged to not buy desserts & I’m doing okay on that. My body, for sure, is thankful to my tastebuds for this major sacrifice! :D

Maybe, thanks to these efforts, I lost seven kilograms.

I’m grateful I got vaccinated against COVID. It doesn’t save me from getting the darn virus but it will, hopefully, save me from becoming critically ill or from dying! :D (You can read about my vaccination experience here.)

I’m happy & I know it!

Health is not valued till sickness comes.

I agree 100%! My aim since 2020 has been to make myself healthy enough that when I’m old, I can remain independent, stay out of hospitals, & still be able to travel the world. I’ve quite some distance to cover but well-begun is half-done, isn’t it?
